Indiana’s Running Backs Reloaded for 2026

Indiana’s Running Backs Reloaded for 2026 - painting of Indiana Hoosiers football venue

Who Will Lead Indiana’s Recharged Backfield?

After Roman Hemby and Kaelon Black vaulted Indiana to a national title with their combined 2,000-yard season, both moved on to the NFL, leaving a void in the Hoosiers’ ground game. To fill it, Indiana landed Boston College transfer Turbo Richard—749 yards and nine touchdowns last year—while counting on Lee Beebe Jr. to bounce back from a season-ending knee injury. Khobie Martin, the late-season spark, also vies for carries alongside redshirt freshman Sean Cuono and true freshman Jayreon Campbell. With no clear favorite, IU’s running back room promises fierce competition and depth across the board.

Finally, a collegiate backfield that sounds like a weekend DJ lineup: Turbo Richard headlining, Lee “Oops–I-Fumbled” Beebe on the side stage, and Khobie “The Closer” Martin dropping hot runs between openers Cuono and Campbell. One can only imagine the team meeting: “Alright gentlemen, we need zero fumbles unless you’re trying to set a new personal worst.” As for Coach Cignetti, he’s reportedly stockpiling bubble wrap and pitchforks—just in case someone actually gets the starting nod. Tune in this fall for “Backs and Laughs: The Hoosiers’ Comedy Skit on the Gridiron.”
