NJ Signal-Caller Can’t Stop Gushing Over Sooner QB Heritage

Class of 2028 quarterback Trey Tagliaferri, a 6-2, 190-pound rising junior from Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, NJ, recently visited the University of Oklahoma and was awed by its reputation as “Quarterback U.” After earning a 4-star Rivals rating (3-star from 247Sports) and throwing for 2,219 yards with 29 touchdowns as a sophomore, Tagliaferri drew offers from OU, Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama and more. He praised head coach Brent Venables, offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle and QB coach John Kuceyeski, saying he’d feel at home in the Sooner room. Oklahoma’s proven track record—eight former OU QBs have debuted in the NFL since 2000—only reinforced his belief that Norman could be the ideal launch pad for his future.

In a surprise move, Tagliaferri left the cold, soggy fields of New Jersey for a Norman sunburn, because nothing says family like swapping snow storms for tornado warnings. He gushed over OU’s coaches as if they’d invented the forward pass, conveniently forgetting that “Quarterback U” also involves cardio on a 100-degree day and an annual awkward post-practice team photo in matching sweats. Still, with names like Mayfield and Hurts on the marquee, it’s hard to fault a kid for dreaming of an NFL franchise noting his name on a waiver wire. After all, if you can survive Coach Venables’ pep talks and still remember your own name, you’re practically Peyton Manning.
