Torrance’s Last Layup on the Court of Life

Mikhail Torrance, a former University of Alabama basketball guard who starred from 2006 to 2010, has died at 37. His cause of death is currently unconfirmed. Torrance’s collegiate peak came in the 2009–10 season with averages of 15.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.1 assists, earning All-SEC Second Team honors. A heart condition kept him out of the 2010 NBA Draft, and later that year he famously collapsed during a workout, suffering over 10 minutes of oxygen deprivation. He went on to play professionally in Turkey, Canada, Finland, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico before retiring in 2015.

In a plot twist even Hollywood writers would reject for being too on-the-nose, Torrance’s ticker finally called “time.” Fans are already demanding a posthumous MVP award for his courage in defying medical science, while conspiracy theorists insist he faked his own demise to dodge fantasy basketball drafts. Meanwhile, Alabama supporters are debating if the next recruit should undergo not only cardiac screenings but also a séance to ensure they don’t ghost the Crimson Tide halfway through the season. Rest easy, Mikhail—your final buzzer definitely beat the clock.
