From Belmont to Booker: Gillespie’s Sun-Bound Voyage

Ja’Kobi Gillespie, Tennessee’s sharpshooting guard, finished his senior year averaging 18.4 points, 5.4 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game. After stints at Belmont and Maryland, he returned home to lead the Volunteers to the Elite Eight. Yahoo Sports projects that the Phoenix Suns will select him with the No. 47 pick, envisioning him as a dynamic bench spark plug who can both fire jumpers and manage the offense alongside Devin Booker.

Behold the Phoenix Suns, who apparently believe that adding another civilian to their roster will finally fix their seasoning. Gillespie’s life story reads like a collegiate game of musical chairs, and now he’s expected to ride Booker’s coattails straight into the NBA. It’s like hiring a pastry chef to run a pizza parlor—ambitious, unpredictable, and guaranteed to raise eyebrows. Here’s hoping the Suns aren’t the only team swapping chairs when the music stops.

Felix Okpara: Nuggets’ Next Defensive Anchor?

Felix Okpara, Tennessee’s defensive stalwart, averaged 8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game last season. After two years at Ohio State and a transfer to Tennessee, he helped the Vols reach the Elite Eight. Yahoo Sports forecasts he’ll go to the Denver Nuggets with the No. 49 pick, pairing his paint-protecting prowess with Nikola Jokic’s offensive wizardry to chase another championship.

Ah yes, the Denver Nuggets, who clearly got tired of drafting point guards and small forwards and decided, “Let’s just beef up the paint!” Adding Okpara to Jokic is like putting a screen door on a submarine—a marvelous defensive statement, if only it didn’t make you wonder what universe this strategy comes from. Still, at least opponents will think twice before driving the lane, if only because they’re too dazzled by the cosmic oddity of a 49th pick forming a championship duo.
