Moreno’s Recruiting Magic Brings Zoom to Kentucky

Moreno’s Recruiting Magic Brings Zoom to Kentucky - painting of Kentucky Wildcats basketball venue

Old AAU Pals Spark New Wildcat Backcourt Duo

Kentucky point guard Malachi Moreno leaned on his longtime AAU friendship with Zoom Diallo to help coax the top-20 transfer into the Wildcats’ program. Diallo, fresh off a season at Washington where his playmaking was under-utilized, arrives in Lexington as a high-assist, bully-guard archetype under coach Mark Pope. Moreno and Diallo first connected on the Adidas Euro circuit, and their chemistry convinced Diallo to swap coasts. Kentucky expects Diallo’s rim-attacking skills and court vision to flourish alongside shooters in Pope’s system, giving the Wildcats a dynamic lead guard who can both punish defenders and set up teammates for success.

It turns out that all it takes to build a championship-caliber basketball team is a tightly knit AAU squad—and maybe a few group texts. Forget high-priced recruiters or complex analytics: just reunite two buddies who once shared jerseys overseas, and voilà, you’ve assembled the next superteam. Coach Pope must be kicking himself for never hosting a dinner party in Europe to scout talent. Meanwhile, the NCAA is reportedly drafting new regulations to prevent “excessive bromance” in recruiting. Because when friends sign together, who knows what kind of on-court chaos might ensue?
