Blaze’s Grandmaster Takedown Stuns Forrest

Marcus Blaze battled Jax Forrest in a thrilling best-of-three series at Final X in Newark. After dropping the second match 6-1, Blaze rallied in the decisive third bout, forcing a takedown to lead 2–1, then turning Forrest for two more exposure points. His 5–2 triumph earned him a spot on the U.S. Senior World team in Kazakhstan, cementing his budding reputation as a freestyle prodigy. The victory capped a season in which Blaze overcame illness, close losses in folkstyle, and past NCAA semis disappointment to emerge as a rising force on the international stage.

In a shocking tale of athletic one-upmanship, Blaze apparently bought a “Grandmaster of Freestyle” cape from the Jordan Burroughs merch line and donned it ringside. Forrest, still reeling from the emotional whiplash, reportedly spent his post-match press conference staring at Blaze’s feet, wondering if they might be enchanted. Some fans are already petitioning for Blaze to wrestle in a cape full-time—because nothing says Olympic champion like dramatic superhero couture.

Penn State’s Freestyle Fiesta at Final X

Penn State wrestlers Marcus Blaze, Zain Retherford, Levi Haines and others lit up Final X, securing five of the 10 U.S. Senior World team spots. Blaze, Retherford and Haines punched their tickets to the World Championships; veterans Kyle Snyder and Kyle Dake completed the Nittany Lion quintet bound for Kazakhstan. Highlight reels included Blaze’s comeback win over Jax Forrest, Haines’ dominant 6-3/6-1 sweep at 79 kg, and Retherford’s 2-0 sweep after a concussion-plagued hiatus. Even Spencer Lee’s grueling 7-1, 8-4 defense of his 57 kg crown kept Penn State atop the freestyle hierarchy.

Behold Penn State’s wrestling academy, where athletes apparently receive weekly “How to Dominate Final X” newsletters delivered by carrier pigeon. Each competitor emerged from the Club’s secret underground lair with new moves, such as ‘The Sneaky Takedown’ and ‘The Pan Am Polka.’ Rumors persist that Cael Sanderson has replaced chalk with pixie dust and now rehearses cheers led by a kazoo band. Meanwhile, opposing teams have consulted mystics and seers to decode NLWC’s success formula—still waiting on that prophecy, folks.
