Recruiting Rankings Showdown: Where Clemson Lands in 2027

Over the past month, Clemson’s 2027 recruiting class has surged after a 7-6 season, prompting a detailed look across three major evaluators. 247Sports slots the Tigers at No. 13 thanks to the lone five-star Jamarin Simmons, bolstered by eight four-stars and a host of three-stars that could rise in upcoming updates. On3/Rivals places Clemson at No. 15, recognizing solid contributions from Gary Walker, Bryce Kish and quarterback Kharim Hughley among an 11-four-star, 12-three-star collection. ESPN rates the class 14th, praising the Georgia and Florida talent, especially Hughley’s No. 5 QB designation and linemen like JJ Brown. In each ranking, Clemson trails ACC rival Miami but sits ahead of national powerhouses like Georgia, LSU, USC and Penn State as the Tigers build their depth chart for years to come.

If recruiting databases were dating apps, Clemson would be that overeager swiper whose profile is mysteriously downrated by every algorithmic overlord. Despite snagging a bona fide five-star in Simmons, the Tigers still can’t break into the elite top-10, leaving Dabo Swinney to resort to interpretive dance to convince ESPN’s scouts next time around. Meanwhile, the ACC’s version of “keeping up with the Joneses” has Clemson checking Miami’s scoreboard with the nervous twitch of someone who just texted their ex. Rest assured, once those three-stars morph into four-stars, Dabo’s celebratory touchdown dance will become the next TikTok craze.

Signal-Caller Stampede: Clemson’s First 2028 QB Blitz

Just one year after sending a single offer to Peyton Houston, Clemson has already extended early 2028 quarterback opportunities to two blue-chip prospects. Trace Hawkins, a Calhoun, Georgia native, impressed at Dabo’s camp with a freshman debut yielding a 68 percent completion rate, 2,079 yards and a state title. Rated a four-star and top-five QB last cycle, Hawkins has already drawn interest from Power Four schools and revisited Tigertown multiple times. Trey Wright, a three-star dual-threat from Lone Star (Texas), stunned with 4,042 passing yards, 38 TDs and 1,764 rushing yards, guiding his team to a UIL 5A D1 final. With campus visits to Oregon, Michigan, Ohio State and more, Tigers brass currently leads in his recruitment with nearly a 49 percent chance, per Rivals.

Clemson’s staff has apparently embraced the “collect ’em all” strategy for quarterbacks—move over Pokémon, we’ve got pigskins. Dabo Swinney’s offer sheet now looks like a fast-food combo, complete with extra point attempts and a side of existential dread for every other program. Trace Hawkins and Trey Wright probably get more love letters from recruiting assistants than from actual high school sweethearts. If this continues, Clemson will have enough QBs to start its own spring league—complete with halftime show hosted by DJ Swinney. The real question: will they need a QB rotation once Game Day arrives, or has the staff simply discovered the secret to never having to punt again?
