Doak Campbell Loses Its Roar in EA Sports CFB27
EA Sports has dropped Florida State’s Doak Campbell Stadium from No. 9 to No. 21 on its “toughest places to play” list in College Football 27. Once celebrated for housing 79,560 raucous fans, renovations have reduced capacity to 67,277, and FSU’s back-to-back losing seasons haven’t helped its reputation. Clemson’s “Death Valley” remains at No. 9 while Florida’s “The Swamp” ranks No. 7, and Bryant-Denny Stadium checks in at No. 5—courtesy of one of FSU’s early-season road tests on Sept. 19. EA continues to roll out game features, from gameplay tweaks to mode enhancements, ahead of its July 9 launch.
The noise machine at Doak Campbell may still tick at full blast, but apparently EA Sports has discovered earplugs. Who knew that shaving 12,000 seats and adding a few scoreboard glitches could transform your home field from “intimidating fortress” to “flavorless tofu”? Meanwhile, FSU fans can console themselves by complaining that the digital turf never quite captures the sweet aroma of soggy concession-stand nachos or that their virtual helmets look just a tad too shiny. But hey, if the Seminoles can’t truck Alabama’s Bryant-Denny experience into the game, maybe it’s a blessing in pixelated disguise.
LSU Crashes FSU’s Linebacker Commitment Bash
Florida State has secured three linebacker pledges in its #Tribe27 class, but late interest from LSU has put one three-star commit, Olrick Johnson III, back in play. Johnson announced his FSU commitment on June 11 after racking up 100 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, and 12.5 sacks during his junior season at Harrison High. LSU extended a scholarship offer shortly thereafter, and Johnson will officially visit in the fall. He originally chose FSU over Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, NC State, and Nebraska. Florida State’s 2027 recruiting class currently ranks No. 56 nationally with 12 verbal commitments. The Seminoles also have a deep linebacker room returning for 2026.
Nothing says “steady recruiting” like waking up to an SEC program gate-crashing your commitment party. FSU’s Ernie Sims must be feeling like he spent hours baking a recruiting soufflé only to have LSU swing by and sprinkle extra seasoning—just to see if it tastes better elsewhere. You can almost hear Johnson polishing his Combine resume as he weighs which campus boasts the better tailgates and mascot pageantry. Meanwhile, FSU’s coaches are left refreshing their email inbox, wondering if “Go Tigers!” is now their new fan chant. Better stock up on popcorn—this linebacker love triangle has all the makings of prime-time drama.
