Homegrown Giant Ross Bolsters Gamecocks’ Front Line

Ridge View High’s 6-foot-5 standout James Ross has officially committed to South Carolina’s 2027 recruiting class, choosing his hometown Gamecocks over offers from Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and more. A three-star offensive tackle and top-30 in-state prospect per 247Sports, Ross also excels in shot put and discus. His pledge follows fellow lineman Clayton Lee’s recent commitment, pushing South Carolina’s class to 10 players and No. 67 nationally. With offensive-line depth and durability a concern, head coach Shane Beamer and coordinator Kendal Briles are banking on Ross and his classmates to fortify the trenches and elevate the Gamecock offense next season.

In a delightful display of local patriotism, Gamecock fans can now adorn their hospices with “Bring Back the Bench Press” banners, as James Ross arrives to save the O-line from eternal mediocrity. Ross’s 6’5” frame is rumored to require its own postal code, and he likely throws discus in his sleep for warm-ups. Meanwhile, Kendal Briles has reportedly replaced every play in his playbook with the term “Ross Power Gap,” ensuring opponents will tremble before South Carolina’s new human battering ram. If this doesn’t rejuvenate the trenches, the coaching staff may resort to interpretive dance drills and motivational puppet shows. Stay tuned—college football’s next great offensive-line renaissance might be sponsored by Ridge View High.
