Miami’s Lucas Puts Henderson in 2027 Draft Crosshairs

Jai Lucas, entering his second year as Miami’s head coach, is chasing his first first-round NBA Draft pick in 2027. He’s zeroed in on freshman standout Shelton Henderson, who flashed All-ACC caliber stats last season—13.8 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 56.7% FG—but still needs to polish his three-point shot (25.5%) and free throws (57.6%) to truly become a lottery lock. Scouts rave about his finishing ability and physical readiness, and Lucas believes that with veteran leadership around him, Henderson can climb into the top tier of draft projections by next spring.

Is this just another case of a coach falling in love with his own hype machine? Lucas has reportedly watched Henderson more than a Netflix true-crime special—ironically, the only three-pointer Henderson lands these days is when Lucas throws him under the bus for missed charity shots. Brace yourselves: by the time Henderson raises his draft-night jersey, Miami fans will have seen more graphics tracking his jump shot than a NASA launch countdown. But hey, if Lucas turns benchwarmers into lottery picks, maybe he can tweet his way into a Presidential run next.
