Blackshirts Left in the Cold by EA’s Top-Rated Defenders
EA Sports released its College Football 27 top defensive player ratings, and no Nebraska players made the cut. While center Justin Evans snagged a 91 overall as the fifth-best center in the preseason, the rest of the Blackshirts were conspicuously absent from the top defensive lists. Nebraska’s overall team defense received an 82 rating—good for fifth in the Big Ten—behind powerhouses like Ohio State, Oregon, and Michigan. The Huskers’ offseason brought a full defensive staff overhaul and key transfer additions, but EA’s ratings still favor the Ducks, Hoosiers, and Buckeyes. Nebraska’s 2026 schedule will challenge its revamped defense against multiple top-100 defenders.
In a plot twist no one saw coming—except anyone paying attention—EA Sports deemed Nebraska’s defenders not quite pixel material. Imagine the outrage if EA refused to rate a team’s entire defense: wait, that happened. Meanwhile, Oregon’s defense probably threw a digital parade, complete with confetti shaped like Pac-12 championships. Back in Lincoln, Justin Evans is busy practicing the art of solitude as “Last Cornhusker Standing,” because nothing says “elite center” like solo representation. And if the Huskers survive October’s gauntlet of Hoosiers and Ducks, maybe EA will consider them for a cameo in the next edition—provided they bring donuts to the ratings meeting.
