From Tigertown to Celtic Green: Wiggins’ New Gig
Undrafted after his senior year at Florida State, 6-foot-10 forward Chauncey Wiggins inked a deal with the Boston Celtics’ Summer League squad. A former Clemson Tiger who spent three seasons in “Tigertown” before transferring, Wiggins developed from an 8.9-minute bench piece into a 13.3-point, 3.9-rebound senior shooting a sharp 48/39/85 clip. Now he’ll get his first crack at the pros, debuting July 10 against Toronto with hopes of turning Summer League minutes into an NBA future.
Here’s a classic case of “Wait, we need someone tall”—the Celtics evidently ran out of coffee mid-roster construction and realized a 6-foot-10 guy who can actually shoot is useful. Wiggins arrives fresh from the transfer portal, where promising big men go to avoid ACC coaches’ wrath. If he’s lucky, Boston’s Summer League won’t require remembering any two-digit plays. But hey, if you can drain triples at 48 percent, who needs a playbook? Celtics fans, brace yourselves: this could be the next “no-name” sensation—or at least a great story for your local sports bar banter.
