Trojans Load Up at Receiver in Recruiting Blitz
USC’s latest recruiting cycle has been all about bolstering the wide‐receiver room. After landing a six‐man haul last year—including four‐star talents Boobie Feaster, Kayden Dixon‐Wyatt, Trent Mosley and Luc Weaver, plus three‐stars Tron Baker and Roderick Tezeno—the Trojans turned their attention to the class of 2027. Local standout Quentin Hale, a Corona Centennial product who grew up a USC fan, gave Lincoln Riley his commitment in February. Five‐star Roye Oliver III from Hamilton Christian Academy in Arizona followed suit by reclassifying into the 2028 crop. Beyond pass catchers, USC has also secured multi‐role athletes like Javon Vital Jr., a high‐school quarterback turned running back, tight end Jace Cannon, and offensive tackle Drew Fielder—the latter flipping from Oregon after family ties to the program.
In true Trojan fashion, USC is treating recruiting like a Black Friday sale—“Buy one, get three free” doesn’t cover these numbers. With this many receivers on campus, we half expect Boobie Feaster and Kayden Dixon‐Wyatt calling shotgun on campus shuttles, arguing over who’s the true heir to the Trojan glory. Coach Riley must have a warehouse-sized closet just for these gloves and cleats. If they keep this up, opponents will need GPS tracking devices on every receiver just to know who to cover.
Halloween Clash Looms as USC’s Ultimate Season Decider
For Lincoln Riley’s fifth Trojans squad, nothing looms larger than the Oct. 31 showdown at the Coliseum against the Ohio State Buckeyes—their first-ever Big Ten meeting. Ohio State returns Heisman contenders quarterback Julian Sayin and wideout Jeremiah Smith, while USC’s defense under new coordinator Gary Patterson will be tested. On offense, Jayden Maiava—fresh off leading the Big Ten in passing—must avoid the costly turnovers that plagued USC’s 2025 losses. A win over the Buckeyes, coupled with results against Oregon on Sept. 26, could clinch a path to the College Football Playoff and a shot at the Big Ten title.
It’s a Halloween horror flick in the making—USC versus OSU under the Coliseum lights. Picture ghostly interceptions, skeletons in the locker room, and Trick-or-Treaters doubling as scouts for Patterson’s defense. The Trojans will need more than garlic and holy water to survive Sayin’s arm and Smith’s hands. And Maiava? He better treat every snap like handing out candy: no mix-ups, no slips, and absolutely no handing out turnovers to thirsty Buckeye ghouls.
