Arkansas Razorbacks: Season Preview and Hail to a Legend

Four Burning Questions for Arkansas’ 2026 Kickoff

The Razorbacks open the 2026 season under new head coach Ryan Silverfield, facing an early gauntlet that begins with North Alabama and quickly escalates to a road test at Utah. Arkansas must establish a winning culture after a 2-10 campaign, solidify its revamped secondary with 19 new faces, and unlock the full potential of running back Braylen Russell—who’s battled injuries despite flashes of brilliance. Finally, a group of high-profile transfers and former top recruits like Courtney Crutchfield must justify their hype for a program that can’t afford slow starts in the brutal SEC.

Move over “rebuilding,” the Razorbacks have hired a coach who’s used to sugar bowls, cotton bowls and, apparently, laundry bowls—because he’ll need extra uniforms to mop up tears when the Hog fans expect instant miracles. Culture change? Check. Secondary makeover? Prototypes in progress. Russell’s health? Fingers crossed. And those five-star recruits? They’re allegedly five-star for a reason—somewhere. Buckle up, Arkansas: it’s SEC time, where you don’t just play four games in a month—you survive four identity crises.

Hail to the Hog: Celebrating Bill Burnett’s Legacy

Legendary Razorback running back Bill Burnett, who starred from 1968–1970 under Frank Broyles, passed away at age 78. Burnett led Arkansas to its first Sugar Bowl victory, set the program touchdown record with 49 scores, and amassed over 2,200 rushing yards. After football, he devoted over five decades to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and helped open a crisis pregnancy center. Inducted into multiple halls of fame, Burnett is remembered as both a gridiron hero and a pillar of the Northwest Arkansas community. A celebration of life will be held Thursday in Fayetteville, with donations requested in his honor.

Sure, he could outrun defenses in the Sugar Bowl, but can anyone outrun eternity’s linebacker corps? Bill Burnett sprinted into record books and apparently side-stepped the Grim Reaper until last week. Now the halls of Fayetteville will echo with tales of his faith-based fumbles and touchdowns alike. Fans and FCA champs will gather to toss petals or pigskins heavenward—because if Bill’s anywhere, he’s already scoring touchdowns on celestial turf and making converts among the cherubim.
