Hokies’ Florida Tip-Off Adventure

Hokies’ Florida Tip-Off Adventure - painting of Virginia Tech Hokies basketball venue

Hokie Heat: Women’s Basketball Heads South

Virginia Tech’s women’s basketball squad will jet down to Raider Arena in Niceville, Florida, in late November for a four-team tournament featuring Alcorn State, Michigan State and UT Martin. The Hokies will tip off against UT Martin on Monday, Nov. 23 at 2:30 p.m. ET, then play in either a third-place contest at noon or the championship final at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24. Alongside tournament action, Virginia Tech has lined up non-conference games against NC Central, Delaware, James Madison, La Salle, UNC Greensboro, Tennessee, Appalachian State, Campbell and College of Charleston leading up to the holiday break.

Who doesn’t love a road trip? Especially one where you get to pretend you’re on spring break but with more whistles and jump shots. Virginia Tech’s women are packing their pastel shorts, sunscreen, and a playbook thicker than a Florida gas station receipt. Expect coach pep talks so fiery they’d melt a snowman, and enough travel snacks to fuel a small army—because nothing says “college hoops” like protein bars masquerading as dinner. Fans, meanwhile, will bring binoculars for scouting the sand traps (sorry, wrong sport) and pretzels for mid-game sustenance. It’s part athletic showcase, part beach vacation masquerading as a basketball tournament. Buckle up for breakaway dunks, beach-ball distractions, and a postgame conga line—because if you can’t beat the humidity, you might as well dance in it.
