Huskers Hustle Into the 2027 Title Mix

Nebraska has cracked CBS Sports’ list of 25 men’s college basketball programs with a realistic shot at the 2027 national title. Coming off a historic 28-7 season and a Sweet 16 appearance, the Huskers return leading scorer Pryce Sandfort, whose 18.1 points per game and 42.3% three-point clip make him a front-line contender. According to the new “high-major” criteria—top-20 recruiting or transfer class, or a returning top scorer—Nebraska fits right in alongside Big Ten heavyweights like Michigan, Purdue, and Ohio State, plus national powers Duke, Kansas, and Kentucky.

It’s comforting to see Nebraska finally get cast as Cinderella’s fairy godparents rather than the pumpkin at midnight. After eight straight first-round flops, the Huskers have summoned enough roster mojo to make CBS believe they might not trip over their shoelaces on opening night. And even though returning your best scorer should be table stakes—much like free pizza at a dorm party—CBS insists it’s the golden ticket. Never mind that most programs would murder for a player who shoots 42.3% from downtown; Sandfort’s ninja-quick release has apparently single-handedly vaulted Nebraska into national-title superstardom. Who knew the path to a championship involved exactly one straw and eight horses?
