Gamecocks Scoop Up ‘Megatron’ for 2028 Firepower

South Carolina’s football program keeps its recruiting momentum rolling by landing three-star wide receiver Jhamari Cain from Huguenot High in Richmond, Virginia. Known on the field as “Megatron,” the 6-foot, 178-pound receiver put up 532 yards and five touchdowns as a sophomore and also contributed on the basketball court. Cain joins fourth-star teammate Iveon Lewis, creating a high-school duo that combined for 1,578 yards and 17 touchdowns last season. Their arrival bolsters South Carolina’s 2028 class, which currently ranks third in the SEC with two commits—Cain and fellow receiver Joseph Gibbs. Meanwhile, the Gamecocks remain focused on the 2027 cycle, carrying 17 commitments, including five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, four-star offensive tackle Nate Carson, and other impact prospects across multiple positions. Offensive line depth, particularly at tackle, remains a priority as Shane Beamer’s staff looks to develop the young roster for future success.

Oh, rejoice, Gamecock faithful! For too long you’ve watched less-than-fierce pass-catchers loping around Williams-Brice like confused flamingos. But fear not—your savior, Jhamari “Megatron” Cain, has arrived. He’s not just your run-of-the-mill three-star recruit; he’s a multi-sport marvel who will surely vault into Heisman conversations before his junior year in college. Big worries for opposing coaches: How do you stop two high-school buddies who already look like they’re one offseason away from starring in a sci-fi action flick? Spoiler alert—they can’t. Meanwhile, the rest of the SEC just called and asked permission to present South Carolina with the “Nice Class, Now Please Stop” award. But here we are, rolling out the red carpet for Cain and Gibbs like they’re headlining Coachella. In the immortal words of every overzealous booster ever: It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new Gamecock—and we’re feeling good (and ridiculously overconfident).
