Indiana’s New 7-Foot-2 Titan Ready to Rule the Paint
After struggling to control the boards with a smaller frontcourt last season, Indiana head coach Darian DeVries made size a priority this offseason. Enter Samet Yigitoglu: a 7-foot-2, 270-pound transfer whose imposing frame is designed to shore up rebounding, rim protection, interior scoring, high-post passing, and hard screening. Brought in alongside Alabama’s Aiden Sherrell, Yigitoglu promises to add a physical presence that the Hoosiers have been lacking, giving them a multi-dimensional attack and the brute strength to compete in the rugged Big Ten.
The Hoosiers have officially upgraded their “dirty work” department from a thirsty 240-pound grinder to a genuine skyscraper with delusions of grandeur. Local mortals may have to buy sturdier rims just to survive watching Yigitoglu swat shots like he’s swatting flies. With this behemoth on the roster, opposing teams might consider renting a forklift for post players, or at least investing in a better inhaler—because breathing under that steel roof of muscle is about to get much harder. If DeVries’ offseason shopping spree had a motto, it’d be “Go big or go home,” and Yigitoglu is the walking billboard.
