Notre Dame’s Next Big Playmaker: Ian Premer Arrives

Notre Dame's Next Big Playmaker: Ian Premer Arrives - painting of Notre Dame Fighting Irish football venue

Meet the Man-Child: Irish Freshman TE Ian Premer

Notre Dame has landed five-star tight end Ian Premer, a 6-5, 220-pound Kansas product whose high school stats included 105 receptions for 1,851 yards, 31 receiving touchdowns, 280 rushing yards, and 16 rushing scores. Premer chose the Fighting Irish over Kansas State and arrives on campus poised to become a red-zone obsession. Comparisons to Michael Mayer, who posted 42 receptions, 450 yards, and two touchdowns as a true freshman in 2020, set expectations high. With Notre Dame’s veteran running backs gone, Premer could easily eclipse Mayer’s freshman touchdown total, especially with an improved passing offense led by CJ Carr.

Move over, Michael Mayer: Notre Dame just recruited a man so large he probably eats high school linebackers for breakfast. Premer’s stat line looks like he was auditioning for a superhero origin story—31 receiving touchdowns, 16 on the ground—and yet somehow he landed at a school that already had a tight end legacy longer than your uncle’s fishing stories. Sure, he’s just a freshman, but if Notre Dame’s playbook isn’t already burning holes from red-zone dreams, they’re clearly not trying hard enough. Prepare for Irish fans to install his jersey in the student union by October.
