Nebraska Recruiting: 2027 Setbacks and 2028 Prospects

Husker Linebacker Class: All Sizzle, No Steak

Nebraska’s 2027 linebacker haul under Rob Dvoracek has left fans scratching their heads. After chasing numerous blue-chip prospects from coast to coast — Kobe Rhymes, Brandon Lockley Jr., Prince Goldsby, Blake Betton, Tate Wallace, Tre Geathers, Zykee Scott and more — the Huskers landed only two commitments: Georgia versatile Will-type Eli Harris and Missouri’s playmaker Caleb Green. Both signees boast strong junior seasons but fall short of the size and profile new coach Rob Aurich envisioned for a dominant 4-2-5 front. Injuries, late flips and heavy competition saw the Cornhuskers lose out on bigger, flashier targets, forcing Dvoracek and staff to lean on in-state pipelines and last-minute recruitment pivots.

If sarcasm were an Olympic sport, Nebraska fans would already have a gold medal for linebacker recruiting this cycle. Watching Dvoracek chase prospects like a kid after the ice cream truck only to end up with two less-than-towering linebackers is peak Cornhusker irony. It’s almost poetic: you sweat over the big fish, only to reel in a couple of solid minnows. But hey, at least they can blitz and cover, even if they can’t dunk on O-linemen. Next year, maybe they’ll aim for a tight end class, only to discover half of them majored in “team loyalty” instead of actual talent.

Next Year’s Cornhuskers: 2028’s Dream Board Unveiled

Nebraska’s 2028 recruiting board is already brimming with talent across all positions. The Huskers have zeroed in on Jaxson Carper, a 6’3″ California QB with 14 offers and a sprinter’s speed; four-star RB Noel Washington; tall playmaker Baron Marshall at WR; athletic TE Israel Johnigan; monstrous interior OL Bryce Smalls; Utah’s own tackle prospect Toa Feinga; Bishop Gorman EDGE Tayuan Lawrence; Miami’s speedy LB Steven Moore; borderline five-star safety Giovanni Tuggle; and blue-chip cornerback Keaton Fields. Early visits, in-home meetings and multiple offers suggest NU is betting big on this class, touting strong relationships and development in the trenches under Geep Wade and Lonnie Teasley.

Is it too early to start building statue gardens for these kids? Nebraska’s recruiting machine seems to have declared war on the calendar — by July 2026 they’ll be hosting January signees for spring break and summer camps for the 2030 cycle. Fans should prepare their recruitment bingo cards now: “Unofficial visit,” “in-home sit-down,” “speed ratings,” “football scrimmage highlight reel.” It’s a high-stakes talent parade where the only thing more inflated than the recruiting budgets will be the collective egos of 16-year-olds. But sure, let’s all clap wildly for the next wave of future NFL draft picks before they even hit high school.
