Herbstreit Backs Notre Dame for National Title

Kirk Herbstreit Goes All-In on Irish Glory

We’re on the cusp of college football season kickoff, and ESPN veteran analyst Kirk Herbstreit has made his bold prediction for the national championship: Notre Dame. On The Pat McAfee Show, Herbstreit bucked the Ohio State hype and McAfee’s West Virginia pick, instead trusting Marcus Freeman’s squad to seize the crown. He pointed to a returning defense that shut opponents under 21 points in nine of the last ten games and an offense energized by CJ Carr’s maturation, improved receivers, and a beefed-up offensive line. Herbstreit also cautioned that Miami and Texas A&M could crash the party if Marcel Reed delivers as promised. With Irish expectations as sky-high as in 2006, Herbstreit’s choice cements Notre Dame among this year’s elite contenders.

It seems Kirk has traded his crystal ball for a shamrock—because nothing says ‘we’ve thought this through’ like betting on Notre Dame to win it all. Forget preseason polls or Vegas odds, Herbstreit’s Irish swagger is stronger than a leprechaun on energy drinks. Will Marcus Freeman turn South Bend into the next college football Valhalla? Or will he trip on the green turf, courtesy of questionable special teams and an offense that thinks ‘slight improvement’ is a viable strategy? If Notre Dame pulls this off, we’ll need a new rule: you’re not a champion unless Kirk Herbstreit has personally tattooed your face on his biceps. Until then, we’ll watch with popcorn, ready to witness either gridiron greatness or yet another two-loss opening to launder conference hopes.
