Spartans Court 2027’s Top Point Guard and Center
Michigan State has landed on the cut-down lists of two blue-chip 2027 recruits as it eyes a backcourt replacement for Jeremy Fears Jr. and a nimble defensive center. Four-star point guard Jaxson Davis, ranked No. 41 nationally, trimmed his list to six finalists—including MSU, Iowa, Marquette, Ohio State, Creighton and Minnesota—and will official-visit East Lansing on Oct. 1. Meanwhile, four-star big man Jaydn Jenkins, No. 45 overall and the top center from Pennsylvania, named Michigan State among his top five choices alongside NC State, Ohio State, Georgetown and Xavier, with his official visit set for Aug. 12. Standing 6’0″ and 6’10” respectively, Davis’s pass-first flair and Jenkins’s rim-protection pedigree fit Tom Izzo’s need for a steady point guard and a defensive-minded interior presence. With only two scholarships open—thanks to returning veterans and the new “5-in-5” eligibility rule—the Spartans’ recruitment haul could hinge on these marquee visits.
In true Spartan fashion, Tom Izzo has dusted off his recruiting pitch and is selling East Lansing like it’s the Coachella of college hoops. “Want unlimited access to screaming coaches and existential dread in the final minutes? Pack your bags, kiddo!” he no doubt proclaims. Meanwhile, Davis is weighing whether he’d prefer a finely tuned “Grind Week” or a scenic tour of sweaty practice gyms, and Jenkins is preparing to assess which locker room has the best echo for post-game monologues. It’s a high-stakes game of musical chairs—two scholarships, fifty hopefuls, and one man who still yells at refs like they stole his coffee. May the best recruiting brochure win.
