Hoosier Freshmen Shine on International Stage

Dazzling Debut: Indiana’s Freshmen Take Peru by Storm

Indiana’s new-look squad opened 2026 play at the FISU America Games in Peru, and it was the trio of true freshmen—Vaughn Karvala, Prince-Alexander Moody and Trevor Manhertz—who stole the show. Karvala exploded for 32 points in a single contest, drilling seven triples and finishing the tournament with 65 points on 57.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Moody averaged 12.3 points, 4.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game, connecting on 45.8% of his threes. Manhertz chipped in 8.0 points per game on perfect inside shooting and 50% from deep, while hauling in nearly five boards per outing. All three promise to bring scoring punch, playmaking and energy off the bench in Big Ten play.

Move over, seasoned pros—these fresh-faced Hoosiers flew in like midnight snackers raiding the international buffet and left everyone craving more. Karvala’s long-range barrage looked like he’d hacked the internet and downloaded unlimited ammo; Moody played as if he’d swallowed a GoPro and was streaming highlights in real time; Manhertz slipped through defenses like an overzealous raccoon stealing your backyard barbecue. If preseason tournaments had MVPs, these freshmen would be demanding nameplates on the trophy. College basketball, brace yourselves: the incoming class spent winter break dunking on your dreams.
