As NFL preseason action revs up, the Houston Texans inked a one-year minimum deal with former Florida State defensive lineman Mario Edwards Jr. After failing a physical and being released earlier this year due to a torn pectoral that cut short his 2025–26 season, Edwards Jr. impressed during a recent workout. Last season he logged 13 tackles, two TFLs, and 1.5 sacks in 14 games. His 2023 campaign in Houston was arguably his peak: 31 tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and two pass deflections. A second-round pick in 2015, Edwards Jr. has appeared in 141 games, amassed 200 tackles, 26 sacks, and contributed on special teams and defense. In college, he was a five-star recruit and helped Florida State secure the 2013 national championship under Jimbo Fisher with 95 tackles, eight sacks, and key plays in three seasons.
