Out of the Shadows: Georgia’s Hidden Grid Stars
The Georgia Bulldogs are plastered across preseason chatter, yet three key contributors remain tucked under the radar. Juan Gaston started as a true freshman on the offensive line and projects to be the team’s most polished pro prospect. True-freshman tight end Ethan Barbour cracked the rotation before a leg injury sidelined him, but he’s primed to reclaim snaps in a crowded TE room. Linebacker Chris Cole, absent from All-SEC ballots, blends pass rush, coverage skills, and run defense, and could very well finish as the Bulldogs’ defensive MVP.
Looks like the SEC talking heads have a collective case of selective hearing—how else do you ignore a hulking lineman who treats defenders like traffic cones, a tight end who plays hide-and-seek with hamstrings, and a linebacker so versatile he could referees’ playbook? Kirby Smart must be rubbing his hands together at the thought of all these “unheralded” studs stepping into the spotlight. They say modesty is a virtue, but if these guys stay hidden much longer, Georgia might just adopt invisibility as its new offensive scheme.
