Coach Swinney’s Gadget-Making Experiment
As Clemson’s fall camp kicked off, head coach Dabo Swinney revealed that former quarterback Chris Denson—once vying for the starter’s job—has slid down the depth chart and may find a new home on offense. Denson, who barely saw action at QB this spring, has been spotted in non-contact gear jumping into wide receiver drills, while also getting snaps in run-heavy schemes and gadget back roles. Swinney says he’ll lean on his position coaches to mold Denson and that he’s still evaluating where the versatile athlete can best impact the Tigers before their LSU showdown in early September.
In true collegiate innovation, Clemson is auditioning Denson in every playbook position except water boy—simply because Swinney hasn’t figured out how to turn him into a human Gatorade dispenser yet. Rumor has it, if Denson can’t throw or catch, he’ll just juggle punting duties while selling hot dogs on the sideline. After all, nothing screams team spirit like a gadget player moonlighting as the marching band’s sousaphone.
Linebacker Unleashes His Inner Athletic Monster
Clemson linebacker Sammy Brown earned the No. 20 spot on Bruce Feldman’s 2026 College Football Freaks List after stellar freshman and sophomore seasons. The 6-2, 235-pounder racked up 80 tackles, 11.5 TFLs and five sacks as a freshman, then led Clemson with 106 tackles, 13.5 TFLs, five sacks and an interception as a sophomore, earning First-team All-ACC honors. Brown’s freakish measurables include a 4.41-second 40-yard dash, 600-lb squat, 385-lb bench, 10-7 broad jump, 38-inch vertical, and a 3.86 GPA while majoring in biological sciences.
Move over, circus strongman—Brown’s the new main attraction. With his lift numbers making weight rooms weep and speed that could outrun a GPS signal, he’s half linebacker, half cheetah, half mad scientist. Clemson’s rivals might need a time machine just to catch up, or perhaps a rescue squad for any unsuspecting ball carrier who stumbles into his path. As for his GPA, we’re convinced he’s secretly building an AI robot linebacker that does homework too.
