Ducks’ Linebacker Platt Faces Season-Long Timeout

Platt’s Spring Sprain: Ducks’ Defense on Hold

Oregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning confirmed that sophomore linebacker Brayden Platt will remain sidelined for the foreseeable future due to an injury first felt in spring practice. Platt, a former four-star recruit, had logged three tackles across two freshman games and was poised for a breakout second year. With Bryce Boettcher off to the NFL, veterans Devon Jackson, Jerry Mixon, and emerging talent Nasir Wyatt are set to fill the leadership void. Oregon opens the 2026 season Sept. 5 against Boise State as 24.5-point favorites, but the linebacker corps will have to prove depth without Platt’s potential impact.

In a move that surely thrills Ducks fans everywhere, Coach Lanning gets to showcase his best impression of a fortune-teller: “He’ll be out for some time until we see where he’s at.” Translation: we’re sticking a Band-Aid on it and praying it holds. Meanwhile, Platt’s backup linebackers are doing cartwheels in the end zone—unless they’re too busy reapplying sunscreen after reading those lofty DraftKings over/under lines. Could this be the season when “next man up” becomes “every man up,” or will the Ducks’ defense fall apart faster than Brutus’ toga at a toga party? Stay tuned, because nothing screams championship glory like questionable depth chart mysteries.
