Crimson Tide Fall Camp: Scrimmage, Sleepers & Injuries

Tide’s First Fall Scrimmage: Unexpected Power Plays

Alabama’s opening fall scrimmage at Bryant-Denny Stadium featured over 100 plays across two hours, and a handful of position groups stole the show. The defensive backs dipped low to scoop up tipped balls, proving that reflexes (and perhaps hidden magnetism) are alive and well in Tuscaloosa. The running backs, even without freshman EJ Crowell, churned out yards as the scrimmage wore on. Though the offensive line still has work to do on cohesion, it shows steady improvement. The defensive line appears set with new transfers and returning talent forming a formidable front. Tight ends grew more polished as the practice progressed, hinting at depth for the season ahead.

Alabama’s coaches must have felt like proud parents watching their kids finally ride bikes without training wheels—if those bikes were 300-pound athletes in pads. The DBs snatching tipped balls resembled toddlers grabbing candy at Halloween, while the OL’s ‘not there yet’ performance echoed a freshman dorm room still missing a microwave. Meanwhile, the DL looked as consistent as your one friend who actually remembers to RSVP. And let’s not forget the tight ends, who improved faster than a high-schooler after they discover coffee. Fall camp may not be the Iron Bowl, but at least everyone left without bruised egos… mostly.

Starving for Glory: Bama’s Sleeper Teammates Revealed

With Media Day underway, several unsung heroes stepped into the spotlight as Alabama’s fall camp buzzed about “hungry, starving” sleepers. Linebacker Justin Hill has flown under the radar behind veteran Yhonzae Pierre. Center Racin Delgatty—an FCS transfer—earned praise for his quiet dominance in pass protection. Tall wideout Derek Meadows quietly racked up targets and touchdowns in A-Day practice, and safety Jireh Edwards has impressed teammates with his size and instincts. Each name carries the promise of breakout performances as the 2026 season looms.

Behold the Crimson Tide’s buffet of despairing burners: these boys are so “hungry and starving” their lockers must come with vending machines. Justin Hill lurks in linebacker shadows like a stealthy raccoon eyeing leftover nachos. Racin Delgatty swaggered in from Cal Poly like a transfer student who already aced Pop Culture 101. Derek Meadows towers over defenders, ready to pluck jump balls from the sky like fruit from a tree. Meanwhile, freshman safety Jireh Edwards looks to feast on QBs’ nightmares. You can almost hear the rumor mill: “Don’t feed them after midnight—they get unstoppable.”

Freshman Cornerback vs. The Dreaded Lower Body Villain

Five-star freshman cornerback Jorden Edmonds, early enrollee and top-20 national recruit, is set to miss several weeks of Alabama fall camp with a lower body injury. Edmonds rose quickly on depth charts after a standout spring game, but now the Crimson Tide secondary leans on Mercer transfer Carmelo O’Neal, Chuck McDonald and Zyan Gibson for cover duties. With two weeks of camp left before the opener versus East Carolina, Edmonds’ readiness for Week 1 is in serious doubt.

In the grand tradition of heroic freshman athletes being felled by invisible gremlins, Edmonds’ limbs apparently conspired against him. One minute he’s out-jumping receivers, the next he’s auditioning for the bench. Now Stanford-bound villains like “Lower Body Sprain” have stolen his spotlight. Don’t worry, though—his replacement, Carmelo O’Neal, probably moonlights as a superhero. And if not, there’s always Chuck McDonald and Zyan Gibson ready to step in like dependable sidekicks. Here’s hoping Edmonds recovers faster than a social media scandal these days.
