Previewing Auburn’s Home Opener vs Southern Miss

Auburn’s Tigers Set to Roar Against Southern Miss at Jordan-Hare

The Auburn Tigers will kick off their 2026 campaign on September 12 at 6:45 p.m. CT against the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles, live on SEC Network. Auburn leads the all-time series 18–5, having won the last four matchups, and will even pay Southern Miss $1.5 million to travel to Jordan-Hare Stadium. New head coach Alex Golesh has revamped the offense, replacing last season’s quarterback rotation with transfer standout Byrum Brown—last year’s only QB to pass for over 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000+—alongside Jeremiah Koger, Jake Johnson, Chas Nimrod and more. Golesh promises a family-run, ground-heavy attack featuring Jeremiah Cobb, though the RB2 slot remains contested. Defensively, Auburn lost Keyron Crawford and Keldric Faulk to the NFL Draft but brought in Cody Sigler and Da’Shawn Womack to fill the gaps. With Florida looming in Week 2, this opener should reveal whether the Tigers have what it takes to pounce in the SEC.

Auburn is so committed to feeling fresh that they’re paying Southern Miss enough to buy a small village—and yet expect you to believe it’s all in the name of “finding their footing.” Meanwhile, Byrum Brown’s resume reads like a comic-book origin story: “By day, he’s your mild-mannered quarterback; by night, he’s the only man to throw for 3,000 yards and scramble for 1,000!” One can only imagine the bewilderment of poor defenders who thought they signed up for a football game but ended up on the set of “Quantum Leap: College Edition.” And who needs stability on defense when you can replace NFL draft picks with mystery box transfers? SEC opponents, pray for mercy.
